In 2004, when i was started working in Woodlands Wellington Football Club as a so called PRO ( like some pple claimed ), my main task was to set up a good fan base. Tat was wat my boss told me to achieve. He gave me all the budget i need, as long as he sees results.
When i first started working there, there were absolutely no cheerleaders. So imagine, i have to start right from scratch. As i go around the Woodlands neighbourhood doing community service in the schools, i managed to talk to some girls and ask if they were interested. At that point of time, Eila was also working part time for the club. So the both of us scouted for girls. Eila did a great job assembling 7 of them for a start.
We started giving them intensive training 2 months before the season starts. Eila designed their outfits and planned their schedules. At tat point of time, we managed to get Kappa to sponsor their attire. The gerls were paid only $7.00 for their 90 minutes of cheering non stop. We were the new kids on the blocks at tat time. still afraid of the shadows of big giant cheer groups like Geylang, SAF and Home United. They were the established groups at tat point of time.
From 7 girls to a massive 24 full squad now. In 3 years, im proud to say i have managed to create a strong and organised cheer group. N now, they are all paid $15.00 instead. Imagine girls in school getting paid like tat!! They need to at least werk 4 hours in Mcdonalds to earn tat much!! hehe. My boss were super impress by them tat their allowances were raised from then on. Each and every game played now is highlighted with the bright colors and wonderful cheers by the fans. They have realli make my job easier now. No more supervision, no more instructions. They are all on their feet once the refree whistle the start of the game. *smiles*
If you ever come and watch any Woodlands game next time, you will not miss out on this bunch of people who will sing, dance and cheer the whole 90 minutes non stop. We are even labelled the most improved fan club in the league and the FAS competition department told me the other day at the game, " Finally there's a club tat can compete with the SAF squad."
So, if you ask me if there's anythin i ever established in life and proud of....
Yeah, i do.
I set up the cheer squad and im very proud of them now.
